Inverters

Your inverter determines how efficiently your solar system performs. Three main options exist: Micro Inverters (Enphase) for maximum panel-level optimization, String Inverters with Optimizers (SolarEdge) for enhanced performance at lower cost, and String Inverters (Tesla) for seamless Powerwall 3 integration.

The wrong choice means lost energy production and savings. We'll help you select the best fit for your roof, budget, and energy goals.

One size doesn't fit all—let's find yours.

Micro Inverters

Enphase offers multiple micro inverter models—IQ8A, IQ8HC, IQ8M, and IQ8+—each with different power outputs to match your panel specifications. Choosing the correct model maximizes your system's energy production and efficiency.

Not sure which inverter fits your solar panels? Our solar advisors will match you with the right Enphase model for optimal performance.

PROS OF MICROINVERTERS

CONS OF MICROINVERTERS

✅ INCREASED MONITORING

Panel-level monitoring to allow you to see each panel's performance

✅ SYSTEM EXPANSION

No need to swap out or have a second inverter on your home

✅ BETTER FOR COMPLEX ROOFS

Works well with roofs with various shading throughout the day

Difficult roofs with limited areas to get panels on

✅ LESS EQUIPMENT

With all the inverters on the roof, it requires less equipment on the side of your home

✅ LONGER LIFESPAN

With each inverter having its own 25-year warranty, you know you are protected.

❌ OVERALL COST

More expensive than string inverters

Longer installation timelines

❌ MAINTENANCE

With inverters on the roof, its not easy to get to

Some inverters may be in the middle of a large array

❌ POINT OF FAILURE

With several inverters you have more fail points

❌ POWER CLIPPING

With lower output ratings often you will see some clipping of power

❌ LIGHTNING STRIKES

In storm areas micro inverters can attract lighting

String Inverters

Tesla string inverters offer straightforward installation with six string ports and lower amps per string—delivering efficiency that rivals micro inverters. This design allows flexible panel placement, even on roofs with multiple planes or limited space.

Proven technology, modern performance.

PROS OF STRING INVERTERS

CONS OF STRING INVERTERS

✅ COSTING

With less equipment it keeps the costing lower

✅ EASY TO MAINTAIN

With the inverters in one central located it makes it easier to troubleshoot issues

✅ FEWER CONNECTIONS

Fewer connections reduces issues of being wired incorrectly

✅ EFFICIENT

Due to the inverter only converting what you need, you convert more power into usable power of upward of 98%

✅ NO CLIPPING

The inverter only converts the power your home needs, not all the power produced. That allows the battery to avoid clipping

9% higher energy production over Micro Inverters

❌ REDUCE PERFORMANCE

Dirt and shade will affect all the panels that are on that string.

❌ LIMITED MONITORING

Panel level monitoring is not available with string inverters

❌ SHORTER LIFESPAN

String inverters typically last 8 - 12 years. This means if someone is buying a system they need to replace the inverter two times in the same time you need to replace a micro inverter

❌ MORE SPACE NEEDED

You need to have more wall space to for the inverter to be placed on a wall near the main electrical panel

❌ NOT IDEAL FOR COMPLEX SYSTEMS

If you have multiple roof panels this is not the best solutions

String Inverter with Optimizer

SolarEdge pairs each solar panel with an optimizer to maximize energy production. If one panel underperforms due to shade or debris, the others continue operating at full capacity—unlike standard string inverters where one weak panel drags down the entire system.

The result? Consistent, optimized power output across your entire array.

PROS OF STRING INVERTER w OPTIMIZER

CONS OF STRING INVERTERS w OPTIMIZER

✅ EFFICIENCY

Higher efficiency than over a string inverter, leading to more solar energy generated

✅ INSTALLATION

Systems are easier to install and to link the arrays together

✅ SYSTEM MONITORING

Easy to use monitoring allow you to see panel level production, and easy to use app

✅ ENERGY MANAGEMENT

If you are looking for EV Chargers, or battery solutions, SolarEdge products work seamlessly together

✅ SHADING

No need to worry about clipping or shading issues. The optimizers allow consistent production through out the day

❌ COST TO INSTALL

With having a string inverter and optimizers you have that additional cost, but still less than a micro inverter system.

❌ MAINTENANCE

Anytime you have more equipment you have more to maintain

Optimizers may not report the issue correctly causing install companies to come out on more troubleshooting repairs

❌ POWER OPTIMIZERS

With all the complexity of the optimizers you can see a higher fail rate over micro inverters

Has some issue in high temperatures, and areas with high humidity

❌ COMPATIBILITY

Smaller system are not as compatible with the smaller inverters.
