The process for your solar project has serval moving parts, but we simplify the process, and have a team to guide you through the process. With several collaborations with the local city, homeowner associations, and utility companies. Our goal is make the process as simple as we can for you. Each timeframe vary, depending on your city permitting process, and how quickly a homeowner responds to items we need.
Step 1: Solar Consultation
It begins with us getting to know you and your family's goals, needs, and future needs. We will schedule a time we can either jump on Zoom, or in home consultation where we will present a solar solution based on your goals in your solar project.
We will walk you through every step of the solar system, equipment options, and financial options, any incentives in your area, and other items we need to address for your home to go solar. Our knowledge with the process will provide you with enough information to make an informed decision. We want to ensure that the system we designed will need your needs before you decide to move forward with the project.
Step 2: Contract Signing and Welcome Call
During this time we will take the time you need and answer any questions you have as we cover all the documents you need to sign to complete the signature process.
Some of our lenders require a welcome call. This is to protect you, as the lender will verify some information, set you up on auto pay, and verify the best way to communicate with you. Once that is complete we will be given a Notice To Proceed with the project.
Step 3: Project Kick off, Site Survey, & Design
Now that we have received Noticed To Proceed, one of project managers will reach out and schedule the site survey. The Project Manager will be your point contact through out the project.
Once the Site Survey is schedule we will preform a rigorous survey to a provide our engineers all the information needed to design the system. We look at your electrical panel to ensure that it is solar ready, along with looking at the roof to verify it is in good condition.
Once the survey is completed the engineering team will start on the design. This take about 7-10 business days to complete. Once the design in completed we will get your final approval before moving forward. If we find that the initial proposal is not able to install we will share with you any changes.
Step 4: Permitting
We will submit the application to your local city to get approval and issue a permit to install the system. This process is the longest we have. Each Area of Justification (AHJ or Local City Offices) all have different timelines, and approval process. Our team will inform you the the timeline in your AHJ, and the expected time to get the permit back.
Step 5: Construction
Once we get to this step it means we have approval and permit in hand, and now we can start the installation process. This is the most exciting time. We do not waste time, but we also take our time to do it right.
Our team will schedule the installation for a time that is convenient for you. Our team will walk you through each steps of the day, approve the final location of all the equipment before we get started. Since we are tying into the main electrical panel we do need to turn the power off for a little bit, and the team will let you know when they need to, and to make sure that time also works for you. Most installs take 1 -3 days depending on the size and the complexity of the installation.
Step 6: Inspection & Utility Interconnection
After construction has been finish, we arrange for your local city or AHJ inspector to inspect the project. Once the project has passed inspection, our team will file all necessary paperwork and applications needed to get approval to energize your system. This is a standard process for all solar systems, and we can navigate the process everyday. Each utility has different approval process timing, and out team will communicate your timing for your utility.
Step 7: Power ON! Permission To Operate
This is the best time as we now get to turn your system on, and you are now producing solar energy.
We will walk you through all the steps to ensure you have all the log ins for your apps, and walk you through making sure your system is on and functioning.
Step 8: Ongoing Support
At Powered By The Sun we do not look at this as a one time transaction. As long as you are in that home and the system is operating we are here for you! Just like your dedicated Project Manager, our team is here for all your post solar installation needs.
In the first year our team will reach out every few months to make sure you understand the apps, and how to read your new Net Metering Bill from your Utility. If you have add a storage solution to your system we will walk through that app as well, so you feel comfortable knowing how to monitor your system.
After the first year of you being fully solar we reach out annually to do a system wellness check. This for us is long term partnership, and we hope you want that too.
